Welcome to Deborah Brothers’ children’s literature site.
Deborah Brothers holds a Ph.D. in English Studies and brings a scholar’s attention and a reader’s curiosity to the world of children’s and young adult literature. Her book reviews have appeared in Choice and The Lion and the Unicorn, and her essays, fiction, and scholarly work have appeared in several publications. She is a peer reviewer for Children’s Literature in Education and a member of the editorial team for Twelve Winters Press Journal.
As a former professor, Deborah offers this site as a space for reflection about and critical attention to books written for young readers: picture books, middle grade novels, young adult literature, classics and new releases. A long-time anti-censorship advocate, Deborah also specializes in fostering conversations about the negative impact of broad censorship in the world of child’s books and child-driven reading. Here, readers will find short essays, resources, reviews, teaching notes, and interviews with those involved in the art, imagination, and cultural importance of children’s literature.
Whether you are a teacher, student, parent, librarian, writer, or lifelong reader, this site invites you to read closely and think generously about books that mirror and shape young people’s experiences.
